Book Review: Cryer’s Cross by Lisa McMann.

This story was pretty good. Although there were a few things that I didn’t really like about it.

I’ve read Lisa McMann’s work before, I even own her WAKE trilogy, but I guess, I find her writing style kind of, off-putting. It feels..slightly detached from the story. I’m not sure if this is because of the font style she chooses to use or it’s actually her writing yet, but when I read her books I feel like I’m not close enough to the character to understand them better.

The plot was quite interesting and spooky but seemed to drag for a while until chapter 16 when it starts to pick up pace. After that it started to become more suspenseful and the ending leaves you wondering.

I originally wanted to give this book 3/5 but after writing this review out, I’m sad to say I’ve changed my mind.

I give this book a 2.5/5 stars.

(Being able to understand the characters and feel apart of the story is a big thing for me, but when reading this story, I didn’t get that kind of feeling. :()

Book Review: Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready.

Sorry I’ve been gone for a long time again! Anyways, I’ll just jump into the review instead of making excuses.

This story is about a girl named Aura, who along with everyone else born after the shift, can see the dead. In this story, we find out how Aura possibly has something to do with this ‘Shift’ and how she is stuck in a love triangle between her dead boyfriend and another guy she meets born before the ‘Shift’, named Zachary.

WARNING: The book DOES suggest sexual stuff at some point so maybe you might want to read this if you’re 13 or over? But if you’re 12 and you can handle it, that’s cool too. I’m just letting you know. :)

The book has 309 pages, not including the first chapter of book two, Shift. The font’s fine for reading.

The author incorporates music into the story. Anyone like Death Cab for Cutie?

It’s a good book for anyone who’s into a paranormal world and unraveling mysteries behind something big.

The ending of the book left off at a cliffhanger and made me want to read the second book so badly, but when I got the second book…opps, I’ll leave that for the second book’s review.

The story isn’t bad. :)

I give it 3.5/5 stars.

Book Review: The Vampire Stalker by Allison Van Diepen.

I just finished this book yesterday and wanted to do a review for it quickly before I forgot anything again, so I’m going to have to put off reviewing Blue Moon again.

This book is quite interesting. It’s about this girl named Amy who loves this series called “The Otherworld” and especially loves Alexander Banks, this handsome vampire hunter from the series. I think any reader that has ever fallen in love with a book character can relate to this story, but even if you haven’t, I think it’d still be a nice read.

In this story, Alexander Banks shows up in Amy’s world and he is really real! But so is the enemy vampire named Vigo who has also come into Amy’s world and is terrorizing the streets. Amy and Alexander try to stop him and along the way, Amy begins to feel that she may be really falling in love with the real Alexander Banks.

Maybe I like this story because of how it plays with the possibility that fictional characters can actually be real and are just from another dimension (it’s explained scientifically in the book). Apparently, it’s called literary physics. Haha.

There are 257 pages in total and the font size is wonderful for reading. I definitely enjoyed reading it. I couldn’t put it down! Haha. When I finished it, I felt a…slight sense of…(for lack of a better word, I’m not sure if I want to use the word loneliness) loneliness. Maybe sadness would have been more appropriate? The moment I put the book down I thought, “Wow. That’s the end.” The ending was quite nice, I enjoyed it. It gave you a feeling that great things were going to happen, which was really nice. It was a bit sad to say goodbye to the characters though.

It was really good but I felt it was a little…’mellow’ compared to what I’ve recently been in the mood for. I’m recently into things that’ll make my heart race wondering what’s going to happen next. I mean, this book did that too, but it was just a bit mellower than what I’ve been reading lately. This was a wonderful read though!

On the inside, the author even wrote, “For those of you who have ever fallen in love with a character in a book.” Haha. So I think anyone who ever has, would like this novel.

I give it 4.5/5 stars.

Book Review: Dark Secrets 1 (Legacy of Lies and Don’t Tell) by Elizabeth Chandler.

Hey!

It’s been a while.

I know I said I’d be writing a book review for Blue Moon but I recently went out to buy more books and finished this one so I decided to quickly do a review for it while I could still remember everything most things. Haha!

So this book is split off into two different stories. Don’t worry, the stories actually end in this book so you won’t have to freak out about finding out what happens in the next book. Dark Secrets 2 has two other different stories. This book has 431 pages in total, that’s including both stories but excluding the preview chapters for other books and the font size, I’d say is a small to medium size.

So when I read the back for this book, I was at first more interested in Don’t Tell rather than Legacy of Lies but after I finished the whole book, both are equally good. They both kept me guessing the whole time trying to pin point who the murderer was. But one thing that really annoyed me was in Don’t Tell. In it, every time something spooky happened, the main girl character Lauren kept blaming it all on this other girl named Nora (who has some…problems…mentally.) It just really bugged me cause EVERY TIME she’d say, it was Nora or why is Nora out to get me? Etc. Things like that.

But, dang! Legacy of Lies was pretty good! Our main girl character, Megan has a mind of her own. :) And I didn’t expect the murderer to be who that person was until the end and then finally everything slowly started to make sense. Okay, actually, no it didn’t. Haha. But when that person showed up near the end, right away I suspected them and thought “Oh no!”

So, I definitely think you should give it a try if you’re into something a little spooky and suspenseful.

I give it 4/5 stars.

Book Review: Evermore by Alyson Noel.

I remember when I first read the back cover of this book, it seemed quite interesting. Since then, I’ve been hooked to this series. (I’ll later do a review for the second book.)

When I read this book, I got quite hooked to it and thankfully when I was giving this book a try I decided to buy Blue Moon (the second book in this series) with it, so I started that right away.

I quite like how the beginning started, and Ever isn’t just some heroine that’s all flowers and giggles. The love story between her and the main guy character is also very sweet too. I loved how the author, Alyson, chose to put specific flowers in this book that had certain meanings to it, that added a nice touch.

So for those of you who don’t really know what Evermore is about, it’s about a girl named Ever who died and somehow came back to life, but ever since she did she has the power to know all about someone just from one touch from them. So this leads to her secluding herself and changing from who she use to be (a cheerleader type) and she soon meets our male lead.

I think Evermore is a great start to the immortals series.

I give it 4/5 stars.

Book Review: The Back Door of Midnight by Elizabeth Chandler.

This book, like the lying game is also a bit of a mysterious thriller. We meet Anna, who goes to live with her psychic/crazy? aunt. Her uncle just recently died not long after sending her a letter to come see her and she wants to find out what’s going on.

The first chapter hooks you already and there’s a part later on near the end of the book which gets REALLY good. When she’s playing this game of hide and seek with the killer. It gets really suspenseful!

The book is 299 pages and the font is also great for reading. I feel like my reviews are getting shorter and shorter but I don’t know what else to say. They’re good. Give ‘em a try sometime, see if it’s your thing. :)

I give this 4.5/5 stars. I was thinking of giving it 5 but I don’t feel as much hype towards this book, doesn’t mean it isn’t any good though. It is!

Book Review: The Lying Game by Sara Sheppard.

This book was definitely a great read!

The book has 307 pages with also a good sized font and I loved how sometimes there were little clues and hints being dropped around for readers to pick up and try to make something of it. But on another note, it’s also kind of sad when you think about how the long lost twin sisters never even get a chance to meet each other.

It definitely wasn’t a boring book. I loved how mysterious things were and you just kept flipping the page wanting to find out what happens next. And I also LOVED the prologue. It captured my attention right away and intrigued me. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the second book.

I give it 5/5 stars!

Book Review: Beastly by Alex Flinn.

This story was absolutely great! I loved it! The storyline is similar to what we all already know of Beauty and the Beast except in this version, the beast and beauty are living in modern day New York City and the beast uses the internet to buy things and chat online with others.

The story is 300 pages and the font is a great size that’s easy on the eyes after all that reading. The one thing about it was how everything happened at the last minute. I know, I know. That leaves for suspense and all that but couldn’t it just be a couple seconds earlier or something?

I don’t have much bad things to say about this book. I couldn’t put it down from start to finish. I finished it all in 5 hours (I know, very slow right?), I took some breaks.

In this story, the beast is originally the most popular guy in school who gets all the hot girls and decides to play a prank on a girl that isn’t what he finds attractive and after pissing her off, he finds out she’s actually a witch and then gets changed into a beast. He is then given two years to try and break the spell.

This book doesn’t have the usual ‘chapters’, it is broken off into parts, such as, part 1, part 2, etc and then in those parts would be a couple of chapters before moving on to the next part.

This book was very enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good read to pass the time.

I give this 4/5 stars.

Book Review: The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong.

Here’s the thing about this book. The prologue was actually quite interesting because it started out with some action already (the drowning of the friend), but once it hit chapter one, I just couldn’t bring myself to continue on. It just felt really boring after and I left the book sitting there for days!

I kept thinking I should continue it because this new trilogy is tied in with The Summoning, The Awakening and The Reckoning (which I loved and will possibly review someday.)

So altogether, the book has 359 pages and the font isn’t too small. It’s a size I’m quite comfortable with. Things actually only started getting more interesting when Rafe showed up, although I really loved Daniel’s character but he seems more like a secondary character.

The ending ended off quite well. It wasn’t a complete cliff-hanger and left more to be explored but something about the ending when Maya was saying that there was more time to ask questions later…with the supernatural book experience I have, there is never ‘more time to ask questions later’, with these books, you’re always fighting against time trying to get everything done, save the world, etc.

Also, when she mentioned that the people that started the forest fire were still on the island and were behind them…I don’t know, maybe I’m being paranoid but it made me think that something was about to happen. Maybe the pilot driving the helicopter that they’re in is actually working for the others and is going to drive them somewhere else?!

Well, anyway, I don’t have too much to say about this book. It’s prologue was interesting but the beginning chapters started off quite boring and didn’t really pick up pace until….chapter 6?

I give it 3/5 stars.
